Mini Report
This Computer Fair shortly known as Compfair is one of the largest IT events held with a specialty of academic and IT knowledge by students from School of Computing, UTM. The main idea for this program is to allow students, lecturers, and staff to gain benefits which covered various aspect including psychological, spiritual, physical and economical.
The graduate attributes that the CompFair 2023 strongly emphasized are leadership and teamworking skills, thinking skills, communication skills, and global citizen.
There were many activities that were organized in the event such as coding competitions and treasure hunts and workshops on cybersecurity and AI. There was also a career fair where many companies set up their stalls to hunt for eligible candidates for employees for their office.
Leadership and teamworking skills: As I say the competitors participating in the coding competition in a team, I saw the importance of teamwork that is needed to win a competition and also the importance of leadership in a group so that every work is tracked on properly.
Thinking skills: The workshop and seminars organized in the event motivated me to think about the different aspects of information technology and how it is changing our lives gradually. It especially made me think about the impacts of AI and security in our lives and see a bigger picture of it.
Communication skills: Through participating in the event, I came across many amazing people who are morally uplifted and who are very motivated. I also came in contact with some of the experts in the industry from whom I could get valuable insights. I also got the contacts of some companies where I can apply after I graduate.
Global citizen: The Compfair sought to instill a sense of global citizenship among its participants. It featured expert speakers, discussions on global perspectives in career development, and opportunities to explore global job markets in the field of IT. By engaging with professionals from diverse backgrounds and gaining insights into global trends and opportunities, students were inspired to develop a global mindset and enhance their cultural awareness.
As a participant of this program, I visited different stalls of the companies who set up stalls to market their products and also looked for eligible employers. I also applied to some of them out of curiosity. I watched the coding competition and realized how the contestants are taking it very seriously and how important and fun coding can be. I also joined a resume workshop where I learnt how to make a proper CV to impress the recruiters.
All in all, it was an event which was entertaining to me and also I learnt a lot of new things and got an idea of how to prepare myself for the job market in the field of software engineering.
Self Reflection
Participating in CompFair 23 organized by PERSAKA UTM was an enriching experience that not only provided me with valuable insights into the IT industry but also helped me develop personally and professionally. The event, spanning from June 12th to June 15th at block N28A of the Faculty of Computing, showcased the collective efforts of students from the School of Computing, UTM, to promote academic and IT knowledge among peers, faculty, and staff.
One of the key highlights of CompFair 23 was its emphasis on nurturing essential graduate attributes, including leadership and teamworking skills, thinking skills, communication skills, and global citizenship. As an active participant, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the importance of teamwork and leadership in competitive settings, such as the coding competitions. Collaborating with teammates underscored the significance of effective communication and coordination to achieve common goals successfully.
Moreover, the workshops and seminars organized during the event prompted me to contemplate various facets of information technology and its impact on society. Delving into topics like cybersecurity and AI broadened my perspective and heightened my awareness of the evolving technological landscape. It encouraged me to think critically about the implications of these advancements and how they shape our future.
Engaging with industry experts and networking with fellow participants further honed my communication skills and exposed me to diverse viewpoints and experiences. Interacting with morally upright and motivated individuals inspired me to strive for excellence in my career endeavors. Additionally, gaining insights from professionals and companies at the career fair equipped me with valuable resources and potential opportunities for future employment.
CompFair 23 also fostered a sense of global citizenship by offering insights into global career development perspectives and job markets in the IT sector. Engaging with speakers and exploring global trends enhanced my cultural awareness and encouraged me to embrace a global mindset in my professional journey.
As I navigated through the event, visiting company stalls, observing coding competitions, and attending resume workshops, I gained practical knowledge and skills essential for navigating the job market in the field of software engineering. The event served as a platform for both learning and entertainment, leaving me inspired and better prepared to embark on my career journey in the dynamic world of IT.
In retrospect, CompFair 23 was not only a memorable event but also a transformative experience that contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth. It reaffirmed my passion for technology and instilled in me the confidence and skills needed to thrive in the ever-evolving IT industry.
