Care for Community (C4C) Feed The Homeless, again a program I joined under Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam (PMI) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This event is actually a post event for the Kem Kembara Muslim that was held previously by PMI. Means, the participants are all from the Kembara Muslim's participants who run the program from the beginning. From getting approval from UTM Students' Affairs Division until finding the venue and transport to run the program.

Communication Skills

Mini Report

On November 2019, Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam (PMI) held an event namely Care for Community: Feed the Homeless. This event is like a sequel from Kem Kembara Muslim as this is a resolution program from what we gained from the camp. One of the participants from the camp session proposed this community pursuit to sympathize the fate of people who cannot own a home or having issues until they cannot be sheltered properly. To be honest, I was forced to join this activity as they easily picked the previous participants and assigned position. However, I am not felt depressed or any bad thing because at the end, I enjoyed the event so much. Going deeper into communication skills attribute, I found that this activity developed my interaction skills so much. Since that I am a committee member, so I need to meet a lot of people seeking for approval for this outdoor event as well as when dealing with the president of the program. This program is mainly to distribute foods and drinks to homeless around our targeted zone at MBJB building.

Self Reflection

From this activity, I can improve my communication skills during the process of making the event succeed. This can be seen when I went to many departments in UTM like Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) to inform the management that there will be some students who will join this outdoor activity that might cause injuries etc. For a first-year student like me going to those department, I feel awkward to meet the staffs and ask for help. Next, I went to the university medical centre to apply the first aid kit as an emergency backup in case any participant injured somewhere. However, the skills do not only applies here. I also managed to enhance my interaction with those homeless by asking their condition, having chats and ask them why they were homeless. Some of them said they are working at Singapore and do not have enough money to rent a house there, so they stay homeless near the Malaysia gateway to Singapore. Therefore, a lot of advantages can we get from such activities like we can develop empathy towards the unfortune people and be grateful of what we have. In this activity, the challenges are huge as we are dealing with public people as we do not know them either bad or nice etc. Thus, we just stay together in a group so if anything happen, a lot of backup can be called.
