The Journey of Getting AWS Badge
I don’t have any knowledge about cloud computing, especially Amazon Web Services (AWS) at the beginning stages. I barely got to know about it from the information given by my lecturer Dr.Azurah and through an Industrial Talk. But I completed all the modules and successfully earned a badge and a certificate from AWS cloud computing.
There were 10 modules in total where we must complete all the modules to earn a badge and certificate. . The contents of 10 modules are
- Module 1: Cloud concepts
- Module 2: Cloud economics and billing
- Module 3: AWS Global Infrastructure
- Module 4: AWS Cloud security
- Module 5: Networking and content delivery
- Module 6: Compute
- Module 7: Storage
- Module 8: Databases
- Module 9: Cloud architecture
- Module 10: Automatic scaling and monitoring
The whole AWS lessons were explained and moderated by 3 experts. The experts explained all the terms in detail by providing some examples .The slides and notes are very useful for better understanding. The first lesson started with a simple introduction to AWS cloud computing. It was totally new to me when I started to learn from zero knowledge . It was an up and down journey for me at the beginning stages. It was so difficult to learn and understand the terms and explanation of the AWS. There will be a series of videos that will explain to about AWS. We must watch all videos and try to understand the explanation. We supposed to complete all modules in sequence. We were not encouraged to skip any modules. At the end of the module, we must answer questions in the "Knowledge Check". The questions are of multiple-choice. We would consider pass if we scored 80 and above. Otherwise, we must repeat answering questions in the "Knowledge Check".
Furthermore, I got less than 65 % in quiz 1 of module 1 . After multiple attempts at answering quiz 1 , I finally got 85% . I don't want to give up, so I accept this as a challenge in terms of learning a new skill. I become more focused when watch all the videos. I will jot down the important notes while watching the videos for better understanding. It took almost 2 weeks to claim my badge since the modules 8,9 and 10 have more sub videos compared to other modules .Through this learning process, I gained my self-esteem to be a self-taught person .Despite of my busy schedule, I spend almost 2 hours of my free time learning the modules .
I learned that AWS is cloud computing which relies on the internet and AWS server. Sometimes I might experience connectivity drops, bottlenecks, lagged content streaming and downloads, and slow speeds. Those are all common problems with home internet services. The AWS server also be down due to technical problems.
Reflection
Summary
This session teaches us what is cloud computing, namely Amazon Web Services (AWS), entails, and we understand that the cloud computing reality has expanded swiftly in this world. Aside from that, we may conclude from this discussion that innovation is critical to our success since it increases human productivity. Cloud computing has a significant influence on humans since it has a lot of benefits that we need in this era which are cost-saving because people do not need to worry about hardware maintenance, it also has flexibility compared to the old version, and many more. As a result of industrial revolutions, all new innovations and technological breakthroughs have benefitted the globe, and all of this necessitates long-term innovation.
My motivation to complete this project
Completing and learning a difficult skill and seeing it through to the end is the tagline that have been motivated me to complete this AWS badge. Next , it contributes 10 marks to my course assessment . So , I have to work hard to get the full marks
Direction after completing the badge
I'm planning to earned another badge which is Cloud Practitioner. It is a foundational level which is a six months of fundamental AWS Cloud and industry knowledge. Then I would like to explore more about cloud computing and architecture by watching tutorial videos. It will boost my confidence and knowledge to try some simple projects.
Opinion about getting the AWS badge that is included in SECP1513 subject
First, thank you so much for including the AWS badge in the SECP 1513 subject. It was a good starter pack for me to explore more in this field since I’m a beginner to Computer Science. It was more convenient for me to learn new skills through this subject. This is because the source of all the information is original and well updated to current trends. Surprisingly , it’s out of charge plus we claimed a badge and a certificate to show off our skill to others.
My opinion whether every company should shift to Cloud Computing
Based on my knowledge, most of the companies are shifting to cloud computing since it’s had a lot of advantages. Cloud Computing is well known for its easy implementation and security. These cloud infrastructures are easy to manage and access by the company organizations. Moreover , the companies do not need to worry about their security issues of all databases where they will not lose their data as it is stored in the Cloud.
My opinion whether every computer science/UTM student should learn Cloud Computing (get the AWS badge?).
I highly encouraged them to learn cloud computing. It’s a starter pack for us to learn many computers and technology-based skills which are high on demand . I believe that these provide a global accessibility and better recognition.
My advice to friends who have not get the AWS badge yet
It will change our mindset where Information Technology is hard to learn. I’m not saying it’s easy but if you put your effort it will be. I believe that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning play a massive role in the adoption of Cloud Computing. This skill will make us an extraordinary person who keeps updating themselves with current technologies. Furthermore, AWS is the fastest growing cloud service, and these skills are high on demand
