FYP2 WORK PROGRESS

FYP2 WORK PROGRESS 1

INTRODUCTION

For this work progress 1, I divide my work into 4 parts which are coding for PSD, determine room samples dimensions, determine measurement points and determine distances of measurement points. Each part will discussed further in each section below.

CODING FOR PSD

After the second meeting with Dr, Dr suggest to change the parameter from Sound Pressure Level (SPL) to Power Spectral Density (PSD). It is because PSD is not affected by the loudness of the sound plus it is not easy to adjust the loudness of the flapper. So, I searched the new coding for PSD. Figure 1 below shows the coding that can convert the sound signal to PSD. The first line is to convert the signal into samples and line 3 is to convert the samples into graph.

DETERMINE ROOM SAMPLES DIMENSIONS

I met Adam Irsyad to get the Room Samples dimensions which he had measured during his Internship with Dr. Room Sample 1 is at Bilik Demo 1, Block P16 while Room Sample 2 is at Bilik Kuliah C, Block D10. Figure 2 and Figure 3 is the top and side view of Room Sample 1 respectively while Figure 4 and Figure 5 is the top and side view of Room Sample 2 respectively.

Determine Measurement Points (MP)

Measurement Points (MP) were determined in both Room Samples with 12 points each. The MP's are set diagonally starting from the front corner of the room until the back corner of the room for all the corners. The distance between the MP's are constant diagonally between each other. The last MP is set at the middle of the room. Figure 6 and 7 show the position of the MP's in Room Sample 1 and 2 respectively.

DETERMINE DISTANCES OF MEASUREMENT POINTS

After determine the MP for each Room Sample, the distance of MP to front wall, back wall, nearest side wall and from ground to ceiling is measured. It is significant to analyze the reflection patter of the Room Samples later. The distances are measured using laser meter. Table 1 and 2 shows the distance of MP for Room Sample 1 and 2 respectively.
