I participated in the program as a committee member

Justification in joining the activity
The activity was held at the beginning of semester 1 in my first year as a UTM student. I joined the activity as the committee member for Basketball activity because I was eager to know and understand how the activities in UTM, Kolej Tun Dr Ismail specifically, is carried out. Other than that, as a new student I wanted to get acquainted with other UTM seniors so that I could widen my range of friends and acquaintances.

The Graduate Attributes that are focused on
One of the graduate attributes that are focused on is communication skills. By joining in the activity, I got to learn the communication skills attribute where I need to continuously communicate with other committee members regarding the preparation of the Basketball match. Besides, leadership and teamworking skills are also important as the other committee members for Basketball match and I are a team that need to work together so that our work are aligned with each other and get the best result for the Basketball match activity. The leader divide our works where I need to work with another member to complete the Basketball match sheet. Other than that, thinking skill is also one of the graduate attribute that is focused on where as I have never join in an activity related to sport, my knowledge on Basketball match is limited. I was assigned to create basketball scoresheet and key in all participant name in the scoresheet. The process in learning how to create the basketball scoresheet and the function of it, do enhanced my thinking skill. Last but not least, my enterprising skill is also enhanced because all committee members need to promote the basketball match activity so that other students interested to join in the activity as participants.

Content of the activity
On Friday, 18th October 2019, Basketball match was held as one of the activity in Open Day Resak 2019 (OPERA’19) event. The venue of the match was at the basketball court in Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail. There are 8 committee members involved and a total of 16 teams participated in the match. I was one of the committee member involved in succeeding the activity.

Even though the program was and the process were tiring. But it was fun when I think about it again. Being a committee member for Basketball match was indeed gives many impact on developing my graduate attributes. Because the Basketball match activity need many preparation before, during and after the event, our committee team was assign with 8 committee members where we need to always communicate with each other to update on our progress. The program also gives more knowledge to me in regards of the process of Basketball match. Because the activity need the involvement of a bunch participants (basketball team), I learn to advertise the program to my friends.

My self strength is that I had joined many activities in secondary school, thus working with others is an easy thing for me because I always hold to the quote that says 'two heads are better than one'.

The challenge that I faced was when one of the committee members and I were assigned by our team leader to create basketball scoresheet that I have never heard of. But I overcome this challenge by asking few friends that have some knowledge about Basketball and searching the internet.
