Mini Report

The seminar titled "Checkmate: Uni Life & Employment" offered an insightful exploration of strategies for success in both university life and the transition to the professional world. On November 18, 2023, two distinguished speakers shared their valuable insights during this virtual Zoom meeting. Wong Qin Tong, our first speaker, began the seminar by addressing the challenges of university life and the skills gap in the workforce for university students. Drawing from her practical experience as an intern at Navira Meditech Sdn. Bhd, she stressed the importance of closing this gap and highlighted the significance of soft skills for a seamless transition from academia to the workplace.

Following her, Adam Fahmi, the second speaker and a TEDxUTM Speaker, discussed the importance of social life in university. He argued that developing bonds and connections goes beyond mere charm, playing a crucial role in shaping personal and professional growth. Drawing on his own experiences, Adam emphasized the importance of networking, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. In conclusion, the "Checkmate: Uni Life & Employment" seminar provided attendees with valuable insights into navigating university life intricacies and preparing for employment challenges.

I significantly benefited from attending the "Checkmate: Uni Life & Employment" session. It provided beneficial advice on how to succeed in both university and the workplace. I'm amazed at the impact Wong Qin Tong and Adam Fahmi insights have had on my academic journey and career aspirations following their presentations. Wong talked about the skills employers look for, making me think about my own skills and how they match up. She stressed the importance of soft skills, like communication, alongside good grades. Wong's advice from her internships motivated me to actively look for hands-on experiences to complement what I learn in class.

Adam highlighted how important it is to have a social life in university, emphasizing the value of networking. This made me realize that connecting with classmates, teachers, and professionals is key to building a supportive community beyond just academics.
