Delegation: School Of Computing 2020
Introduction
School Of Computing of University Technology Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputer(PERSAKA) have held a delegation program which was held at University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) on 27 February 2020. Delegation is an annual event of School of Computing. The aim and objectives of this program is to strengthen the relationship between two sides of the PERSAKA and Information Technology Club(ITC) of UTHM. This program provides opportunities for School of Computing students to see and experience other universities surroundings and facilities as different universities have different internal structure. More than 40 UTM students from the School of Computing had participated in the exciting and enriching event. Through this program it helped us expand our network. The event was held for one day from 8.00 am to 5 pm. Dr. Suhaila who is the advisory lecturer of PERSAKA also joined the event. The event started with gathering of all the committees at the KTDI car park. They have been given breakfast while waiting for the UTM bus arrival. At 8.10 am the bus has arrived and the trip takes about 2 hours to reach UTHM. Upon arrival we waited in their activity hall, for the representative to give a speech. The event then proceeded with a talk reviewing all the activities and programs that had been done by the PERSAKA and ITC. After that, ITC took us to a visit to their labs, library, and mosque. I can see that all of their facilities are more advanced compare to what we have in UTM. After that, the event proceeded with the ice breaking and play some games with a member of ITC. At 5.00 pm the event ended and every getting ready for going back to UTM.
Graduate Attributes
What I can reflect from this event is mostly leadership and teamwork, I was the Bendahari in PERSAKA and had to think more about how to solve the problem in an effective way. In any program teamwork is always important. Everyone who participated in the event was in teams and everybody helped each other. For example, in this event, we have exchanged our knowledge with ITC on how does to solve the problem. I can see that ITC have an effective way of solving their problem. Other than that I learned every leader has to hear advice from others. Everybody was well aware of their responsibility and their task. By being in a team, we were able to help with each others problems or flaws. For example, by doing this event I learned more from ITC member on how they manage their program and how they gains their profits. Other than that, the reflection that I can get in this event is we must be more tolerant of each others. This is because it can make everyone who works with us will be more comfortable and be more understanding of their job scope. This will make every work that we had been done by the team will be more successful. The group leader lead our event flawlessly and made our visit an awesome one. Being a leader really made the person a lot more confident in their actions and that confidence will go along way. A productive leader and good teamwork will make any activities a successful one.
Other than that, the delegation event also hone on my problem solving and critical thinking skills. Critical thinking allows oneself to think thoroughly about a problem or situation. Although we were given only a limited amount of time in UTHM, but we managed to make a perfect timetable and schedule to visit the important parts of the UTHM facilities. Our event started at 8am and ended perfectly and 5pm. We were all happy to be back in UTM on time because of the schedule. Critical thinking is also helpful to make us independent. Any challenge that we face has its own lessons. Essential skills and attributes can be obtain from joining these kinds of event. The best leesons are often achieved by experience.
In conclusion, if this kind of event pops up in the future, I would surely join again without second guessing. It has truly opened my eyes that these kind of activities has many benefits. I know academic is important, but extracurricular activities are just important. I was lucky to meet a lot of people along these journey as a student. Next time I might take part in this event as a higher rank committee member. It will definitely help me gain more experience and help improve any imperfection that I have on myself.
