My journey throughout this course
Technology and Information System (TIS) and Information Technology (IT) are terms that are often used interchangeably. Today, with technology being a part and parcel of everyone's life, this course was very helpful, if not an essential part of my studies.
I was enrolled in SECP1513-07 (Technology and Information System) under Mr. Hairudin Bin Abdul Majid. Mr. Hairudin is a very fun, helpful and engaging teacher. He would encourage asking questions in class and would almost always answer all of my question outside of class too. He would help me with any sort of confusions or obstacles I have had.
Throughout this course, I have done 4 assignments, 1 discussion, 1 project and attended 7 industry talks. I have attended all 7 of the organized industry talks and they were very helpful. All of the assignments and projects were group assessments. I was the leader for my group and all of us make a great team. We distributed our workloads, shared our successes and failures together. We have all learnt how to design posters, magazines, newsletter, create a powerbi report + dashboard, and edit videos. But most importantly, it helped us enrich our communication skills and our team-working skills.
Industry Talks
Industry Talk 1
Industry talk 2 was delivered by the Head Product Designer of TM, Mr. Nazri Hj Edham. This talk was about the 4th Industrial, the introduction to 4th IR Technologies, the importance of the 4th IR technologies and how TM supports this revolution. The emphasis was on 5G, AI and Smart City. Our assignment 1 was based on this talk.
Industry Talk 2
The speaker of this talk was Ms. Sarah Khadijah Taylor. She is a strategic and project manager Department of Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity Malaysia. She talked about the efforts taken by Malaysia towards IR4.0 and mainly automation in the manufacturing sector. Our assignment 1 was also based on this talk.
Industry Talk 3
This talk was from Dr. Dr. Qusay Al Maatouk from APU (Asia Pacific University). The talk was about cloud computing and cloud concepts. He explained the three cloud computing deployment models, the benefits of cloud computing. He also compared it to the traditional in-house server method. We had to take ideas for assignment 2 for this talk.
Industry Talk 4
Dr. Ruzimi bin Mohamed, founder of OZEL SDN.BHD delivered this talk, This talk was Augmented Reality, which is one of the nine pillars of the 4th IR Technologies. I asked some questions and was given some helpful resources on AR development. Dr Ruzimi showed us examples of AR and AR technologies. We also had to take ideas for assignment 2 from this talk.
Industry Talk 5
A talk given by Mr Goh Bih Der, Systems Engineer, COMMSCOPE. This talk was about enterprise networking solutions. The talk described the network devices and some of COMMSCOPE's products. The talk described about WI-Fi 6, the advantages of it. He also talked about various network infrastructures. Assignment 3 was based on this talk.
Industry Talk 6
This talk was delivered by Mr. Nicholas Yong, Executive Industry Solution Manager, Huawei Asia Pacific. Mr. Nicholas introduced us to 5g and WiFi 6. He taught us how to differentiate between these two terms and also showcased us why these technologies are better than the previous generations. He described about Huawei AirEngine and their infrastructure. Assignment 3 was also based on this talk.
Industry Talk 7
The final talk, delivered by Mr. Isma Redha. He introduced us to Microsoft Power Bi. Power BI is a set of software services, apps, and connectors that work together to transform disparate data sources into logical, visually immersive, and interactive insights. Your data could be in the form of an Excel spreadsheet or a collection of hybrid data warehouses that are both cloud-based and on-premises. Power BI makes it simple to connect to your data sources, visualize and uncover what matters, and share your findings with whomever you choose.

Mr. Hairudin is a really fun, friendly and helpful lecturer. He has helped me out with all sorts of confusions I have had. He has helped me by answering all of my questions outside of the class within a matter of moments. In class, he tries to imitate a face to face classroom environment. He encourages a lot of questions and always makes sure that everyone is focused in class. He gives us reminders for every industry talk and deadlines. And finally, he considered that time zones were a big problem for us, and schedules our class one hour later than every other section.
This subject emphasizes on introductory information systems and technology, the uses of IT and the emerging trends within the IT industry. This subject has contributed to my basic knowledge of 4th IR, 4th IR technologies, graphics, multimedia, network, internet, software and hardware. And it has especially increased my knowledge regarding cloud computing and data analytics.
I will need great resources and a ton of experience. I will also have to build up my own portfolio full of personal projects. I wish to learn all about programming and software development with the help of UTM and my own hunger for knowledge that leads me to learn new stuff. Improving my time management and efficiency will help a ton, because I am struggling a bit to learn my own things under the pressure of 7 subjects. Hopefully I will adjust to it.
I have not decided yet. But I wish to be either a Full Stack Developer, Software Engineer or a SysAdmin. I hope this program can guide me towards that. This course has given me an introduction to IT. It was like reviewing the stuff I knew and some missing parts inside it. The cloud computing was new though.
