Attributes I learnt from this course
Attribute 1: Adaptability
Adaptability or flexibility is the ability to subject to change in variety of different situations, scenarios or environments. I learnt to modify myself with respect to new environment instead of being stubborn and feeling arrogant of myself. Based on what I have written in Assignment 1, I am prone to environmental changes and keep whining about the problems instead of being a flexible person to learn new things. During the pandemic, physical classes are not available for the sake of safety measures. Therefore, my Semester 1 of learning was entirely carried out via online platform. At the beginning of semester, I did not adapt to it and throwing myself a tantrum that “I can’t learn and focus fully during online lesson”, “No feel experiencing University life”, “I can’t make friend”, “Difficulty carrying out discussion on group assignment.” At the end of the day, instead of blaming the situation, I learnt to be flexible and adapt to the new style of learning and begin looking at the good side of this approach of learning. I acknowledge that not all things will be fit with my preferences in the future. I hereby understood and learnt that there are many more kinds of scenarios that we need to adapt with such as working environment, engaging with different people with different cultures, travelling to overseas and so on. So, this attribute, adaptability, is one of the graduate success attribute that taught me a lot during the lifelong learning.
Attribute 2: Teamwork
As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall”. At the beginning of Semester 1, I underestimate the power of teamwork and do not even believe it. I only believe in “solo” effort when I got assigned to some big tasks such as preparing an imminent event for a particular club, designing poster, writing group assignment report or editing video. At first, solitude is my personal preference, but in the end, those works getting heavier and eventually tumbled me, leading me to be unable to cope up and mess up most things. This is wrong approach I took. Instead, I learnt to divide tasks among team member and exchange opinions. I also realized different people have different talents, that after teaming up together, it is so powerful that a difficult task that took me a week to settle ended up being settled in just three days. For example, a trio team with a group member fluent in writing, another is good at video editing while another is good at presenting, which leads to perfect teamwork for an assignment group. As mentioned in Assignment 1 of mine, I stated that I have a poor teamwork because I generally only believe the idea
and my own effort, which can be a disaster sometimes. So, in this course I learnt the attribute, teamwork, which also personally discovered how important it is to me and also believed to be a useful element in the future.
Attribute 3: Soft skills
This is a skill that I believed some people are intrinsically good while some people not.
But in general, with extended exposure and training, soft skills can really be improved. I am convinced and agreed that soft skills are very important in no matter what aspects. Having a strong hard skills without good soft skills, for example, people may not aware what you were trying to do or what message you are trying to convey. One’s potential may not be fully discovered without a strong soft skill during an interview. I personally discovered the importance of soft skills during the hiring session after any interview session. I also realized that with good soft skills, the easier to be surrounded by people
and easy-approaching. This is the skill I learnt from this course and got to know how importance it is. I am still improving my soft skills as of now.
