Chapter 1 - Information Technology, The Internet and You

In this chapter, there are so many explanations on computer hardware from the type of computer to the component of computer. First of all lets look at the definition of hardware shall we? Hardware is defined as physical component of the computer that process data to create information. However, hardware are control by software. So, if there is no software, the processing of data cannot happen.

As I have stated before, there are many various type of computer such as supercomputer that usually used to operate high level performance that involve databases, mainframe computer are smaller than supercomputer but able to process data in short amount of time and have a large memory storage that usually to store information of citizen in one country while minicomputer have the size of a refrigerator that used in industries that have been modified to do specific function like monitoring special process that require precision to avoid any damage.

Lastly is microcomputer that commercially used by people all around the world even though it is the least powerful compared to supercomputer. This is because microcomputer is the cheapest computer in the world that average people can afford. In microcomputer, there six example of microcomputer and that are desktop computer, media centers, notebook a.k.a laptop computer, netbook, tablet PC and handheld computer that also known as smartphones.

In every microcomputer, there should have two most important component that are microprocessor and memory. Without this component, we could not call that device is a computer. Some of other hardware that we can found in desktop computer are microprocessor, memory, keyboard, mouse, monitor and secondary storage. However, since technology is developing rapidly, some of the hardware have been improvised and upgrade to increase it performance. With it, there will be times where fewer hardware is needed for a computer to function as the research are able to combine few function in one hardware, we never know...
