ExCel 3 : OPEN DAY RESAK (OPERA '23)

I participate in OPEN DAY RESAK 2023 (OPERA '23) as a committee member and this mini report will provide an overview of the event including justification in joining the event, graduate attributes will be highlighted and the activities during the event. 

OPEN DAY RESAK 2023 (OPERA '23) is physical program organized by the Student Residential College Committee (JKM) to introduce available facilities in KTDI.I participate as a committee member because OPEN DAY RESAK 2023 (OPERA '23) is one of the famous events that will be held annually by the JKM KTDI. As a resident in this college, I decided to join this event to gain experience by myself and to showcase my creativity and organizational skills. I chose to become a committee member for haunted house activity as it is a very exciting experience as we can entertain visitors with horror and spooky environments. 

Several graduate attributes were focused during this event . Firstly, communication skills as we have to engage with the team members to make sure the haunted house is well planned. Furthermore, it enhances my thinking skills as we have to brainstorm about its decoration and design, actors placement and some more. We also have to consider the safety of the visitors as it was the highest priority in conducting the haunted house. Lastly, leadership and teamworking skills are also vital attributes as all team members shall work and help each other in coordinating tasks.

There are a host of activities conducted during OPERA '23 such as haunted house, hari kebudayaan, traditional fashion show, batik painting, food truck and booth sale, cooking contest and sharing session. The haunted house, specifically, aimed to provide an exciting and thrilling experience. Despite its eerie nature, it can provide several lessons and positive impacts. One of the main lessons from a haunted house experience is learning to face and conquer fear. By willingly entering an environment designed to scare and unsettle, individuals can challenge their anxieties and develop resilience. This can translate into real-life situations where facing fears becomes easier, empowering individuals to tackle challenges head-on.

Throughout the programme, there are myriad impacts on my students' graduate attributes development for example, communication skills. It was my first time being a committee member for a programme organized by Jawatankuasa Kolej Mahasiswa Kolej Tun Dr Ismail. I improve my communication skills as all members have to express their ideas to work on Rasukan Resak Haunted House. I managed to give some ideas on how actors should be located. Furthermore, it also improves my leadership and teamworking skills. In order to prepare and produce this haunted house, it requires a lot of energy and help from each other. Without good team working ability, the haunted house will not exist. 

However there are also challenges occurring throughout the programme.  One of the challenges that we faced are financial constraints. The money that has been allocated to us is not enough for the decoration so the house can look more creepy and also to prepare the props for the house. To overcome this obstacle, we collect used plastic bottles from the college and use it to make ghost props and to make routes in the house. Furthermore, we are also facing some misunderstanding as we have limited time to prepare our house. Luckily, all team members gave cooperation and sacrificed their time to make sure the haunted house was prepared well.
