Teamworking & Leadership Skills

Mini Report

On 16th January 2021, Sekretariat Rakan Muda (SRM) held a programme on Kind & Care 2021, called Destigmatized Autism. Kind & Care is an annual event held by SRM to further induce the act of kindness among university students.

The main purpose of the event is to break the negative stigma surrounding autism, understanding the life of autism, how to communicate with autistic children, and having empathy for other people. A special education teacher, Dr. Shyielathy Arumugam had been invited to give a speech on the matter. Before the event was held, 10 people had been chosen from the SRM student list to lead to event. The 10 people are then grouped into five units which are directors, multimedia unit, protocol unit, publicity unit, and technical unit.

I was put into the protocol unit where I handle the emcee script and RO event. I was directed by one of the directors who had helped me along the process. We held meetings almost every week to update the whole group the progress that each unit had achieved.

The event day came by and went smoothly with the help of all team members. It was held on Facebook Live with almost 300 participants.

Self-Reflection

As one of the committee bureau, I was fairly suprised on how well all the team work together. The event is very much needed in our society to give the autistic people a voice of their own. It is also to make sure inclusivity in the community. Autism had always been frowned upon by our people when it is a genetical disorder. It is very important to educate people of how the autism generates and how those with autism is also human beings with feelings. The program went well with the effort of all unit. It appears the participants that joined the program also have learnt a bit on autism and how to communicate with people like them. Without a question, I think this program makes a difference as I improved my communication skills and problem-solving skills. I hope the program will benefit everyone each year. The program had taught me the importance of communication within the group and cooperation among each team members. I had the opportunity to make new experience and had learned new skills such as making RO for an event and conduct the event.

Mini Report

Jom Netball is a program conducted by the netball sports club. Every member of the club is required to participate in handling this event. It is a one day event where school's netball clubs are invited as guests. Before the event occurs, there are multiple tasks given for each member. We were first divided into groups of three where each group handle different tasks. My group was assigned to do a video on how to do proper stretching before playing netball. Then other groups are required to prepare a powerpoint presentation.

On the day of the event, There are approximately 60 participants from two different schools joined the program. At the end of the program, we asked the participants to join an online game, KAHOOT, as the top three winners will get prizes from our club. The event went smoothly and end in a well-being manner. After the event finished I was assigned to create a poster based on the event outcome. The club's lecturer guided me to produce high quality infographic poster.

Self-Reflection

In this program I learned the importance of teamworking, and fast thinking skills. At first I had a hard time adjusting to the group tasks because i need to juggle between academic assignments and club event. I manage to give cooperation in the group and give out my opinions on certain matters. I participate in every meeting and manage to give a presentation in front of 60 people. I also did my best in the rehearsal where i practice calming down my nerves of talking in front of a crowd. To handle an event it needs constant updates in the group and the cooperation of every group member in the team to ensure high quality work is produced. I also noticed I willingly take every tasks that is needed help by other members and help them go through their tasks properly. In a way, it was a very productive experience and I am willing to join the club'c activity again in the future.

Self-Reflection

This program was a very exciting event that I had joined. Everyone was very friendly and cooperative. I was chocked by how extroverted everyone is and had high hopes to fix my communication skills. The program had given me the platform to talk to people and get to know each other since it was the year where online classes are held. The program was a breathe of fresh air from the academics assignments I had. We also decided to stay in contact after the program while exchanging contact numbers. The skills I learned during the program is leadership skills, problem solving skills, and communication skills.
