INDUSTRY TALK

Industry Talk 1

The talk was from Mr. Nazri HJ Edham, the Head Product Design of Telekom Malaysia and it is about the role of TM in supporting the 4th revolution in Malaysia as well as the adoptation area of 4IR which were the Cload/Digital, Smart City and 5G. From the talk, Telekom Malaysia (TM) is a converged communication services provider which gives hyperconnected data centres in a prime area which meets the global standards. With this, TM can provide services related to cloud such as artificial intelligence to support the 4IR in Malaysia. We learned that Cloud enhances the user's experiance and is more efficient such as we use whatsapp presently but in the past we used SMS. Other than that, we about Smart City which instinctively adapt to the needs of the citizens such as the Smart Water Integrated Management Systems (SWIMS). Lastly, 5G is the following generation of mobile network evolution which unifies connectivity fabric for society and example of usage of 5G is the Smart Parking.

Industry Talk 2

The talk was given by Ms. Sarah Khadijah Taylor, strategic and project manager digital forensics department from Cybersecurity Malaysia. It is about the effort that had been taken by Malaysia towards IR4.0 and some advice on how to progressively market ourselves for future purposes. The talk had told us about what is IR4.0 which is the infusion of automation to the manufacturingh sector in daily task to enhance efficiency and ultimately driving competitiveness in market value.

Industry Talk 3

The talk was from Dr. Qusay Al Maatouk about Cloud concept in which cloud computing being a demand delivery of computing power, database, storage and other IT resources via the internet. Dr. Qusay also explained the three Cloud computing deployment models such as Cloud, Hybrids and On-Premises. From the talk, the advantages of using cloud computing is the high speed and agility which also requires low cost. When choosing Cloud computing, saving money and having more efficiency must always come to mind. Other than that, it was also mentioned about the Total Cost of Ownership which helps to identify direct and indirect costs of a system.

Industry 4

The talk was delivered on the 18th of November by Dr.Ruzimi bin Mohamed who is the founder of OZEL SDN.BHD. From the talk, Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the 9 Digital Industrial Technologies or also known as the nine pillars. Dr. Ruzimi explained that for AR, video games have the largest revenue while education have the lowest. In the case of education, AR was used to give realistic simulation for students. Furthermore, he mentioned the application of sign language in AR using Oculus Rift and implement it in Roblox. Dr. Ruzimi also mentioned the three area where human beat machines which were creative endeavors, social interaction and physical dexterity and mobility. The challenges or issues of AR in Malaysia would be the internet connection due to the AR 3D models requiring a lot of data to load.

Industry Talk 5

The talk was given by Mr Goh Bih Der who is a Systems Engineer of COMMSCOPE. The talk was about the emerging technology on network infrastructure which is the resources of a network that enables connectivity and communication. Mr Goh Bih Der explained the flow of a network infrastructure where it goes from the Access Point to the switches and core switches. The Access Points allows connection of devices within an area while swicthes acts as centralized nodes that control and coordinate the flow of data via data pockets. Through network infrastructures, there would a substancial increase in Wi-Fi speeds and ease of usage of Cloud apps and video streaming services.

Industry Talk 6

The talk was from Mr Nicholas Yong who is an Executive Industry Solution Manager for Asia Pacific Region of HUAWEI. Mr Nicholas explain how 5G networks will provide 50 times more speed, 10 times less latency and 1000 times more capacity that the 4G. 5G will also be able to connect more devices and transmit more data than ever before and enhances user experiances by delivering fast connectivity. Besides 5G, the talk also mentions about Wi-Fi 6 which will deliver 4 times higher capacity and 75% lower latency. The advantage of Wi-Fi 6 would be its increased battery life which is great for the average user and enables low-power devices. This battery life was extended through the use of a feature known as the Target Wake Time (TWT) which enables the WiFi access point to tell our device when to turn the WiFi radio to wake up or go to sleep.

Industry Talk 7

The talk was delivered on the 23rd of December by Mr Isma Redha. From the talk, Microsoft Power BI is a reporting tool that allows transformation of data into a more presentable and interactive one. The data is usually obtained from Microsoft Excel or the SQL server. The reason why people use Microsoft Power BI is the connection of data and allows other colleagues or friends that have access to interact with the data with ease through the cloud. Microsoft Power BI also introduces numerous ways to represent the data such as in a treemap, funnels and filled map whichallows flexibility. This is mainly used in business companies to represent their sales with easy to see and access visuals for the relevant data.

Reflection

Before I start this reflection, I would like to first say thank you to Dr Izyan Izzati Kamsani for teaching us the course, Technology and Information Systems through out the semester. Dr Izyan had used many different ways to teach us effectively such as through the use of Kahoot and Miro. Not also forgetting my fellow groupmates who have had given their fullest together to finish any tasks or assignments given no matter the obstacles. In my opinion, this subject had definately contributed alot in broadening my knowledge about the technologies especially relating to the 4IR. This is very important to make sure I understand the relevent technologies presently in the world and how it will advance even further in the future. As my goal for this program is not only to get a decent job, but to also be able to solve problems and meet the expections of clients in the future, I would definately need to improve on my communication skills. This is because, if I do want to meet the client’s expections, I would first need to understand the problem by asking questions and interact with them. Not only that, i would also need communication to work well with my fellow colleagues in the future to avoid confusion and getting left behind. Throughout the course, despite not being able to meet face to face with my groupmates, we were still able to be on the same page due to our constant meetings to have confirmation on our progress upon the tasks given. Thus, improving on my communication would definately be beneficial or important for an industry.
