Reflection
The purpose of this project is to make a design that would accommodate all the requirements for the network design for the Faculty of Computing. My contribution for the project in task 1 is the first floor design of the floor plan. I have suggested for the server rooms in order to facilitate the servers and switches for a safe environment. For task 2, I have done the first 3 questions which is regarding mainly on the budget for the project. Additionally, I was in charge of the meeting minutes for this task. For task 3 meanwhile, I was mainly in charge of choosing the best patch panels and as well as the meeting minutes for the group. For task 4, I was in charge of the network topology in which I chose the star topology for the project. I was also in charge of the calculations of the total length of the fiber optic and twisted pair wires used within the floor plan. For the last task, task 5, I was in charge of the subnetting of the First floor or the third region as well as creating the tables for the range of usable IP addresses.
For the other group member’s contribution, in task 1, Moataz and Yousef were in charge of the Ground Floor and Imran was working with me on the First Floor. In task 2, each member contributed 3 questions as well as answers for this task. Additionally, Moataz, Yousef and Imran were in charge of the Feasibility Study for this task. In task 3, Moataz was in charge of choosing the LAN devices for the Modem and Router, Yousef was in charge with the Switches and Access Points and Imran was in charge of choosing the perfect cables for the task. Additionally, Imran was working with me for the meeting minutes for the group. In task 4, Moataz and Yousef were in charge of the wiring of the floor plan and the meeting minutes. Imran was also in charge of the wiring of the floor plan but also worked on the calculations on the number of connections. For the final task, task 5, Moataz was in charge of the first region of the subnet, Yousef was in charge of the second region of the subnet while Imran was in charge of the meeting minutes.
Within the group, I have acclimated to the group quite well and had no issues with each other while doing the project. As a group, I always voice out my opinions and as well my progress in each task to give a heads up to the other group members. I was also willing to help the other group members when they are in need of help. Something that I have learned while working as a group is that communication between team members is very important in order to convey and carve the correct direction for our project. Additionally thoughtfulness and time management are important to make sure that the project is submitted in time and everyone will help each other when trouble would arise. From doing the project, I have learned a lot about the importance to keep in mind of the cost instead of always aiming for the best devices. Furthermore, I have learned the importance to keep asking questions about the project instead of keeping all the questions to myself. The last thing I have learned is the importance of researching not just online, but physically like observing the labs within the campus in order to get the bigger picture while doing the floor plan. For the project, I would comment about to test other topologies to see how it would drastically effect the network design. I would also comment for the future to do meeting minutes physically in order to get a better gist on how are we going to proceed with the project.
