1. Explain the 4 types of communication techniques?

a) Verbal Communication

Definition : Words used in a conversation, categorized into Oral Communication and Written Communication.

 Tips for Effective Communication :

-Use strong and confident speaking voice.

-Use active listening.

-Avoid using filler words.

-Avoid using teen slangs.

 

b) Written Communication

Definition : Written Communication skills are necessary to get our point across in writing. It relies on grammar, punctuation and word choice. Developing written communication skills requires practice and fine attention to detail.

Tips for Effective Communication :

  • Clarity : Write in simple language and sticking to concrete, specific information.
  • Concise : Include only the details that are necessary to communicate your point.
  • Tone : One of professionalism blended with varying degrees of formality and friendliness.
  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Active voice

 

c) Nonverbal Communication

Definition : Transfer of information through the use of body language, including eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, tone and pitch of voice, body movement, posture, and space.

Tips for Effective Communication :

  • Using facial expressions
  • Maintaining eye contact
  • Be aware of tones and sounds
  • Mindful of posture
  • Be considerate of personal space.

 

d) Visual Communication

Definition : The act of using visuals as aid during presentations to enhance context of verbal and/or written communication.

Tips for Effective Communication :

  • Ask others for permission to include visuals.
  • Consider the audience.
  • Apply only if it adds value
  • Use visuals that are clear and easy to understand.

 

e) Interpersonal Communication

Definition :  Entire process of exchanging information, ideas, and feelings between two or more people through verbal and non-verbal methods.

Tips for Effective Communication :

  • Clarify statements to avoid misunderstandings
  • Use body language to show that you are listening and you are interested.
  • Pay attention to topics conversed
  • Don’t interrupt or redirect the conversation.
  • Give appropriate responses that are honest but polite.

 

2. How you can be a good communicator?

  • Understand the emotion and intentions behind the information.
  • Being able to convey a message.
  • Be able to also listen in a way that makes you gain the full meaning of what’s being said and make the other person feel heard and understood.
  • Conveys their message thoroughly and is receptive and responsive to other’s input.
  • Speak in clear, direct manner, using easily understood language.

 

3. What are the barriers to be a good communicator?

            a) Consists of :-

 

  • Withdrawal : Withdrawal is an absence of interpersonal contact. It is both refusal to be in touch and time alone.
  • Rituals : Rituals are meaningless, repetitive routine devoid of real contact.
  • Pastimes : Pastimes fill up time with others in social but superficial activities.
  • Working : Work activities follow the rules and procedures of contact but no more than that.
  • Games : Games are subtle, manipulative interactions which are about winning and losing. They include “rackets” and “stamps”.
  • Closeness : The purpose of interpersonal contact in closeness.
