1. Explain the 4 types of communication techniques?

  • Verbal communication. We must be confident during sharing our thoughts and ideas. We need to avoid using the filler words. Filler words will give the audience the impression that we are not ready yet to share or we are nervous. So, it is necessary to make a habit to organize every word in the sentence well before we start to speak. We can speak in a slow pace at least our audience can hear every word from us clearly. It should be noticed that we should use formal words and slang as much as possible. Then it will be count as an effective communication.
  • Written communication. We need to have our writing in a precise way. We need to avoid writing in a very long but meaningless sentence. It will help us a lot if we check carefully about the grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary before submitting any assignment, report, or thesis writing. An interesting tip shared by the professor is telling us to use active voice in our writing.
  • Non – verbal communication. The definition of this kind of communication is transfer of information using body language, including eye contact, facial expressions and tone and pitch voice and so on. During communication, we need to keep eye contact with others to show your attention to then when they are speaking Another pragmatic way to improve our communication is to learn communicating through our eyes especially when everyone is wearing mask nowadays. Next, we must mind our body posture to make our audience feel convenience in the process. Since everyone has their personal space so, do not intrude their personal space during communication.
  • Visual communication is we are presenting our thoughts and idea by the aid of visuals, like video, picture, and others. The main function of these visuals is assisting the presentation, it should not become the main character of the presentation. If we just read the message of text in the visuals, it will cause us fail to convey the message we want.
  • Another types of communication techniques have been shared by the professor is interpersonal communication. A process of entire process if exchanging information, ideas, and feelings between two or more people through verbal and non-verbal methods. The scene we commonly seen now on the dinning table is every member are watching on the screen instead of others face. We should avoid this kind of situation happen around us since it will interrupt the conversation. An effective communication is start from a sincere altitude.

2. How you can be a good communicator?

A good communicator is person who can share his ideas effectively to the others. Communication involves 3 basis operations, that are receiving, understanding, and conveying. We should practice all the communication techniques that shared by the professor in the webinar lecture today well in our daily life communication. By having correct altitude, that is sincere, we can have a better communication. Through today lecture, I think the key point to unlock an effective communication is listening to others quickly, then try to understanding the point incisively, and the try to convey our response accordingly and precisely.

3. What are the barriers to be a good communicator?

The barrier mentioned by Professor Ts Dr. Rose are including physical barrier, which are things those obstructing the communication. We can cope with it easily by just removing the physical barrier. The most difficult part deal with is about the barrier inside us, like the emotional barrier, perceptual barriers. If we cannot handle them well, we could never have an effective communication.

In our UTM, there will be a lot of student come from different races, different area, even different country, so, there is a cultural barrier often beyond our way to have an effective communication. Other’s barrier also including language barrier, gender barrier, religious barrier and interpersonal barriers. Within the interpersonal barrier, we have withdrawal situation, for example we are refused to communicate although there is a problem. Others situation like rituals, pastimes, working, games and closeness.
