PCP 2 ( Chap 8 )

Last semester we learn about mass balance in Principle of Chemical Processes 1. In this semester, we take a new subject called Principle of Chemical Processes 2 or PCP 2. Once again, PM Dr. Azeman is the lecturer who teaches us the subject.  I’m so glad about it since we already been with him since last semester, so he will know how each of us doing in his class.

In this semester we learn about energy balance and some basic of thermodynamics. Last few weeks, we have been taught on chapter eight which consist of state properties, hypothetical path, and integration of Cp dT in order to get the value of dH or heat capacity of a substance. Basically, we can get the value for Cp dT from Table B.2. Other than that, we also learn how to find the Heat absorbed/released of a process. There’s two way in doing it, the first one is by using Steam Table if the substance is H2O, and directly minus the Heat capacities of the product to the Heat capacities of the reactant to get the answer. Other than that, we can also use hypothetical path. In each arrow in the path will contain a value of Heat capacities, and we will add everything up to get the total heat released/absorbed.

In chapter 8.4, we have been taught to use the psychrometric chart.  The chart consists of many elements such as dew point, heat saturation, and relative humidity, bulb temperature and absolute humidity. It’s really hard to understand about how to use the chart at first, but at last, I manage to understand a little bit.

I really hope I could do my best for this subject. Thank you.
