In this week class, we were taught about effective communication. Effective communication is a some kind of process in giving and taking knowledge, informations, thoughts, and even ideas of such that with a purpose or intention is being fulfilled in the best possible manner. In simple words, it is nothing but the presentation of views by the sender in a way best understood by the receiver.
Communicatioon is a very impoertant things in our life and because of that, effective communication is needed. If communication does not work properly, bad things will happen for example, miscommunication. Mis communication can lead towards fighting between the person who communicate with each other and that also affect their social life.
There are many ways to communicate and the most commmon ways are with spoken word, visual images, written word and body language. All of these ways has its process and the stages are all the same. It begins with the sender (encodes) giving some information with some medium and then received by the receiver (decodes) and after that, the receiver giving feedback or response and received by the sender. It is just a simple process but the things that gets in the way of communication is the barrier around the process.
The barriers are things that disturb the way of the communication. Some examples of the barriers are, noise, inappropriate or misconceptions, emotions, language differences, poor listening skills and distractions. There are many more but all these are the common things that become the disruption.
There are two types of action in communicating with someone. It is hearing and listening. Hearing is a process that are done physically and have a trait of natural and passive. Meanwhile, listening is also done physically but the trait are more active, more focussed on taking the information and it is also a skill and as a mental process.
In the two types of action in communicating with someone, the listening type are very difficult. It is very difficult because the person that involved in the conversation should participate in all of the process happened in listening. If they do not participate, they will lose the information that are should have been received.
There are so many values in having type of communication of listening. The first is, listening to other person is an elegant art as it is also reflects the attitude and courtesy with good manners. Second, in listening carefully to the instructions of someone can improve competence and performance. Third, all of the cause of poor listening skill could be disastrous in business, employment and social relations. There are many more of the values that can bring positivity in every work and things that we do.
There are some essentials of communication that should be done. The first and the most important one is, we should always think of everything beneath the things that we are going to say. We can use simple words as the objectives and purposes of our communication is to make other understand in all the things that we say. Second, we should increase all the knowledge that are required for us of all things that we wanted to tell. We should speak clearly and audibly. Third, we should always make a double check on everything that we said to the listeners as have they understood us or not. We also should do a little recap of what has been said in situations that have some interruption. There are many more and everything that are opposite of all the things that should be done are prohibited in order to achive the purposes of the communication.
In communications, not only how we listen and how we give informations that should be checked. Our body language are as important in th way of communications. We should maintain a good bady language and we should always improve our body language skills. The first one is, we should keep an appropriate distance to anyone that we communicate with. We should keep the appropriate way of touching others in necessariness. Second, we should always take care of our appearance in communicating with others as we wanted our communications become success. Third, we have be aware of anything that happened that makes people may give false cues towards us. There are many more of the body language that we should keep in mind when communicating with others.
In conclusion, the learning of this class thought us to be extra carefull of our way of communication with others. All of the impact that can be caused by wrong communication are very dangerous in our life as we all want a good and better life in the future. All of this learning are teaching us how precious communication are in every situations that we are going to face not only in the future but also now and forever.
