There are few inputs that I have learned from the live session talk "Opportunities and Strategies in Crisis" by Captain Cyrano Latif. He firstly shared his experienced when he was one of the three pilots in the cockpit of SQ006, Boeing 747-412 jet that crashed on a fateful rainy night at Taiwan’s Chiang Kai-Shek airport on 31 October, 2000. This incident took place when the flight accidentally entered another runway which was under construction during a typhoon. The aircraft crashed into construction equipment on the runway. From the talk, we can see that he was very traumatized from the scene and took him quite some time to recover from this tragic history. He also shared that he needed the support from the psychiatrist to help him to overcome the trauma at that time. He after that returned to Singapore and left his job as a pilot. During that period, he took the chance to explore and worked in many industries such as food industry, hospitality, also worked as an aviation consultant and taught aviation education, networking and embracing new experiences. He made a comeback after ten years off to become a pilot again with AirAsia. Now, he always gets invitations to give talk to wide ranging audiences such as those from the universities, aviation industries and aviation enthusiasts, including also people in the management who are keen to learn from his valuable past experience. Based on the sharing from Captain Cyrano, we can see that crisis management is very important in a company as a precaution process for an organization to deal with a disruptive and unexpected event that will threaten and harm the organization in the future. With the right implementation of crisis management, it will help to ensure a successful flow of communication in an organization and create a form of strategy on how to handle an unwanted incident from happening to an organization and ruin an organization's reputation.
