Reflection of opportunities and strategies in crisis.

On Tuesday, 12 May 2020, I had to attend a conversation via Webex about opptunities and strategies in crisis. A webinar featuring a special guest speaker, Captain Cyrano Latiff and his Terbang & Teroka (T&T) team delivered a real "Living to Share" account of an aviation accident, multiple points of crisis and the survival journey.

Captain Cyrano shared his observations on the storms surrounding the airplane crash. I felt a sorrow for Captain Cyrano's poor experiences. He also obeyed the orders on house arrest for 2 years after the incident and always had to stick to a certain time limit to go in and out of his own home. I can't imagine what I would do and what about my feeling if my life is under constant surveillance. But, it is fortunately Captain Cyrano remains strong and releases his negative emotions about the accident. Although the accident is about 20 years ago, he still not giving up on himself.

He talked about 5 stages of crisis management during this talk, focused on the case of identification, prevention, containment, recovery and learning. He also displayed the pictures of the situation in the crash. We can see that the manuals for aircraft flight, aircraft engines were removed from wings. Many passengers were involved in this crash and two of the passengers died from hospital injuries. Captain Cyrano shared his thoughts on the key issues centered on the incident.

That core issues included investigations, adding legal implications to the prosecution, and industrial and employment issues. He said no one direction when the accident occurs. Most aircraft flight manuals and engines are coming from Taiwan, American Syarikat and even from Singapore for the industrial issues. Captain Cyrano remains together with his family after the incident, and is helped by others. Captain Cyrano survived an incident that nearly killed him and treated the crisis very well. He has worked to help someone who survives a plane crash. So, his observations, successes, and talents lead people to admire him. Now with AirAsia, he becomes pilot again.

Thank you Captain Cyrano for sharing his experiences from the crash. I do admire him very much. And then, I want to get my own thoughts on the incident too. That's not the fake of a human, who has many problems causing the accident as well as natural disasters like storms. So, we don't pass on the bad news to anyone. Eventually, managing our own healthy emotions and making a positive thinking.
