In Project 2, we have conducted a study of inferential statistics in a group of 4. The focus of of study is on the demography and epidemiology of HIV among adolescents in the world. The purpose of this study is to compare and analysis the difference between estimated number of male adolescents living with HIV over female adolescents, the proportion of adolescents living with HIV in different continents as well as the relationship between the estimated number of adolescents living with HIV and the number of AIDS deaths among adolescents.
In this project, we used secondary data where we collected from UNICEF data. We were exposed to different methods of parameter estimation from different distributions. Besides, we had learned how to conduct data analysis using hypothesis testing. Eventually, we understood what type of hypothesis testing we shall use to estimate mean, proportion, standard deviation and dependency of different types of data.
During the project, we had face a lot of challenges and difficulties. At first, we could not find a suitable data set as most of the secondary data was collected by large organisation, which involved a very large sample size and population that we could not handle. Fortunately, we managed to find a suitable data set from UNICEF data after few days attempt. We were also confusing on what hypothesis testing shall we conduct to get the most precise estimation and conclusion.
In conclusion, I gained a lot of analytical skills from this project. I have learned how to determine the variables of the hypothesis testing that I wanted to conduct and to make decision after the test. I have gained the ability to collect and analyze information, to solve problems and to make decisions. These abilities will definitely benefit me in the future as they help me to break down complex problems into manageable tasks.
