In Project 1, we have conducted a study of descriptive statistics in a group of 4. The focus of our study is the usage of social media among a random sample of respondents. The purpose of this study is to discover multiple relationships between respondents and the usage of social media such as daily average time spent (hours) on social media, the purpose of using social media, respondents’ behaviors and opinions on social media as well as the manipulating reasons behind these behaviors.
In this project, we were exposed to various form of data including nominal data, ordinal data, interval data and ratio data. We used primary data in this project where we collected via questionnaire and survey. We also got to learn how to present our data visually by using R-Studio. Besides, we had learned how to compare in between each data statistically and found out the similarities and differences between them. Eventually, we understood what graphical method we shall use to compare different types of data.
However, we had found out the weakness of our study after data collection. The data for this surveyed was collected from random sample through Google Form. Majority of our respondents were students since we shared the link to our friends. Hence, the frequency of respondents from other social background and occupation was relatively low. It had caused the comparison of our data based on frequency is not accurate enough. We had figured out some ways to avoid these mistakes again in our future study including limiting the survey to only one certain occupation or spreading the survey to more people from different occupation rather than only student. We had learned a lot from our mistakes.
In conclusion, this study had benefited us a lot, may it be academically or valuable life skills. These skills can give me an added boost of confidence in my personal and future professional life.
