As the students of data engineering course, we wish to be a high-paid data engineer in the future and dream of being an authority in the field of science and technology. Nowadays, the world is dealing with large data sets known as big data which are complex and massive until traditional data processing application software are inadequate to deal with them. Thus, we are looking forward to modify the present technologies or even create and design a new technology to deal with those big data.
To accomplish our dreams, we need to prepare ourselves with knowledge regarding the big data issue, professional skills and creative minds. Firstly, knowledge about big data. The big data term is still new to the public. However, we, students of bachelor in computer science, majoring in data engineering, must look into this issue and gaining further insight to enable us to make use of the skill we learnt to innovate a brand-new technology or upgrade current technologies which are capable to deal with the big data. Secondly, talking about professional skills. We are now learning a various type of skill during the lecture in UTM. However, as the time goes, new technologies are continuously improving and replacing existing products, meaning that that much more specialized and precise skills are required to manage them. Hence, we must catch up and learn through the other available resources besides from attending lecture so as to ensure we have truly mastered the skills and always be capable to handle the constantly changing technologies. Thirdly, creative minds. We should think creatively and let our imagination run wild, who knows, we are the ones that make the big data issues no longer a problem to the world.
After ensuring we are well-prepared, we would certainly like to work and gain experience in any company if there is any opportunity provided in the market at that time. At the same time, we will keep an eye on the recruitment or job vacancy available in well-known company such as Microsoft and Intel. Other than gaining experiences, we will also strengthen our soft skills to stand head and shoulders above the rest during the interview and join the company. Next, it is our time to utilize our strengths and contribute to the company so that we will hold an important position in the company and be the best among the experts, finally, achieve our dream to become a high-paid data engineer, or even better, the highest-paid data engineer.
This visit has enlightened us on how a famed university like UTM store, maintain and protect their database. For example, UTM can store information of around 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and around 3000 staffs with 143 physical servers and 500 virtual servers. To ensure zero loss of data and information, a Data Recovery Centre located at UTMKL is established. Uninterrupted power supply (UPS) is also used to keep the servers running during power outages. To keep the database safe and secured, CICT also has a Command Control and Monitoring Centre Unit to monitor the servers so that any detections can be fixed immediately.
