MORE TO 2nd LAW...

For this entry, I will elaborate more about 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.Tongue out In class, Dr taught us about the differences between 1st Law and 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. In 1st Law, I learned that energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be converted from one form to another form which means that energy can only be conserved. For 2nd Law, it is about energy systems have tendency to increase their enropy rather than than decreasing them. In 2nd Law, quality is more important than quantity. There are 3 engineering systems that implement the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics which are Heat Engines, Heat Pumps, and also Refrigerator.

For Heat Engines, what we want is Work net output and what we need is Q input. By dividing work with Q input, we will get the thermal efficiency of the Heat Engines. Example of system that uses Heat Engine is Power Plant. Besides Heat Engine, I learned about Heat Pumps where it is a reverse process of Heat Engines. So the thermal efficiency of Heat Pumps or the Coefficient of Performance(COP) is Q output divided by Work net input. We must bear in mind that the COP of Heat Pump must be larger than 1. If it is less than unity, then our calculation is totally wrong.

Next is about Refrigerator. The working fluid used in Refrigerator is called Refrigerant. The objective of a Refrigerator is to remove Q heat from the refrigerated space. To calculate the COP of the Refrigerator we must divide QL with Work net input. The value of COP for Refrigerator is also larger than 1.

As a conclusion for this topic, we must deeply understand about the differences between Heat Engines, Heat Pumps, and Refrigerator. If we could not know their differences, it will become a problem for us to answer any questions. I hope I can answer any question given to me during Tests or Examinations.Smile

PCP 2 with Dr Aznizam

Assalamualaikum n good day to everyone..for this new entry which i haven't update for a long time,i would like to tell about what i have learnt in the class with Dr Aznizam. He is a very energetic lecturer when teaching us.In his class, i learnt about ENERGY BALANCE. From the class, i learnt that it is important to write basis, reference state n box the numerical answer. we in the class always forget to write the basis when answering questions,it makes Dr feel sad..Laughing

Another things that i learnt were SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMIC,CARNOT CYCLE n REFRIGERANT. from this lecture, i was told that the perfect cycle is Carnot Cycle bcoz it is a reversible process but this cycle does not exist in real life.. in this topic,i always confuse about QL and QH for Heat Engine and Heat Pump..i hope i can differentiate the difference between those two..Tongue out

PCP 2

Assalamualaikum n good day to you whose reading this entry..firstly, i'd like to say alhamdulillah because i can further my study in this 2nd year and doesn't have to repeat my paper especially PCP 1. I'm glad that i was lucky to have a new lecturer teaching me for this semester even though my last lecturer was very kind to me. With this new lecturer, i hope i can do better in my study and score great result.

I'm sorry if i post my entry so late. This is because, my room is not equipped with wi-fi or internet cable.I felt so lazy to go down and online. So, I have to borrow my friends bb to get on the line. It's very frustrating when my other friends who reside at the KTDI upper can online whenever they want. Even when wanted to talk with their friends beside their room they use the social networking.

I hope the college admin would consider to fix this problem for me to get on the line more often so i can log in to e-portfolio.I hope Dr Aznizam would not be mad at me since this is just a journal for me to express my unsatisfactory...TQ Sealed

What's on my mind???

Assalamualaikum and good day to everyone. Firstly, I'd like to say thank you to all for reading my journal about my thoughts of Principle Chemical Process(PCP) subject. There are 6 Course Outcomes(CO) that I must able to get myself understand. To make things easier, I've listed all the CO that I've learned during my PCP class.

  1. I must be able to carry-out unit conversion and also equipment identification for many chemical processes in chapter 2.
  2. I also must know how to calculate mass balance on single or multiple process units in chapter 4.

  3. I also must able myself to solve mass balance calculations.

  4. I need to perform and analyze mass balance calculations of single phase system.

  5. I must know how to demonstrate mass balance calculations of multiple component gas-liquid systems at equilibrium.

  6. Lastly, I must solve the problems using first law of thermodynamics and conservative equations.

There are many other things that I learned throughout this class. This subject equip myself to become a better chemical engineer in the future. It makes me realize how lucky I am to be part of the class and learning something that I cannot find at any other place. Thank you to all my friends that make some time with me to teach the subtopic that I don't understand. Last but not least, I'd really like to thank my supportive lecturer, Dr Ramli bin Mat because he never felt tired to teach me and my friends even though we're not always being serious during his class. I hope I can score good result in this subject and also for other subjects and not to forget all of my friends too.

I really like to say my apologize to Dr Ramli for not being good enough in this subject. With all knowledge that he has given, I will do my best during the final examination. Wish me luck Dr!!! Thank you so much!!! Smile
