SKKK2123: Principle of Chemical Engineering Processes II
This subject is one of the subject that I must take in sem1 2012/2013. This subject is the continued of the subject principle of chemical engineering process I that I take last semester. The result that I got for that subject last semester is not as good as I think. There is more improvement that I must do to survive in this course. For the principle of chemical engineering process II there are learning outcome that that I must master to have a good result this semester sem1 2012/2013.
The first learning outcome is must have the ability to write basis, reference conditions and carry out unit conversion and equipment identification for various chemical process, process variable and unit operation in chemical industry. This ability is same with the previous process I. I can write the basis correctly. The addition is just I must know to put the right referent condition for the problem.
Then, I must have the ability to perform and solve energy balances with respect to changes in temperature, pressure and phase for non-reactive process. The energy balance is much simpler compared to mass balance. I just need to know how to read the energy table at the back of the book.
Then, I must have the ability to calculate the standard heat of reactions using Hess’ law, heat of formation and heat of combustion and then solve problem for reactive processes. For this part this easy because I have learnt in the matriculation first how to use Hess’Law. Thus I do not have much problem in solving any problem that containing Hess’law.
Then, I must have the ability to define the entropy and then calculate the entropy changes in a given process. To solve the entropy is hard for me because this is new topic. I need a lot time to understand the entropy.
Then, I also must have the ability to analyze and calculate the performance of power and refrigeration cycle. This learning outcome is the combination of what that I have learnt until now. I think I can understand more this topic if I do a lot of solving problem in the book.
Lastly, I must have the ability to conduct problem solving solution of mass and energy problem using principle of conservation.
The result of the first test is quit disappointed because I got a lot of mistake answering the question. It is improving in the second test. And I hope I do better in the third test. For the final examination I hope I in a good condition to answer the paper. To get a good result I need to put a lot of effort

Skkk1113 principles of chemical processes 1 is one of the subject that i must take in chemical engineering course at UTM. I studied this subject in semester 2 2011/2012. For me this principle chemical processes subject is very hard to understand because this is something new for me. Before this, the entire subject that i have learns in matriculation and school was repeated. But this subject is very interesting after we learnt it.
By the end of this course, every student should be able to complete the learning outcome. The first learning outcome is able to carry out unit conversion and equipment identification for various chemical processes, process variables and unit operation. This learning outcome is easy to be done because i have learnt it in introduction to engineering subject in semester 1. I can do the conversion of unit for the problem that be given.
The second learning outcome is able to calculate the mass balance on single or multiple process units with or without recycle, purge, or bypass stream for non reactive and reactive processes. Single process is easier for me rather than multiple processes. This is proven when the result of test 1 and test 2 is not good. I think i have less understanding in solving the problem. I will do a lot more exercise to master the skill. Then the reactive processes there are many ways to solve it by using atomic, molecular, and extent of reaction. I think atomic is the easier ways to solve the problem.
The next learning outcome is able to perform and analyse mass balance calculation of single phase system. This part does not give much problem for me because i already understand this topic. The next learning outcome is demonstrating mass balance calculation of multiple component gas liquid system at equilibrium. This is more difficult than single phase because there are lot equations and i must know how to use the table that provided at the back of the book. I need a lot of practice the problem about the topic to make me more understand.
The last learning outcome is able to solve the problem using first law of thermodynamics and conservative equation by identifying forms of energy, reference state conditions and state properties and can conduct problem solving solution of mass and energy problem using principle of conservation. This topic involve in chapter 7. This topic will be studies more in next semester. For this semester is only the introduction. I think i can follow this topic and able to understand after several time doing the exercises that been given to me.
I hope i can do well in the final. I will work harder to achieve my goal. YOU CAN DO IT !!!
