Leadership & Teamwork Reflection

Leadership Reflection (Phase 4)

by Nur Syaffa Husna

I would like to start this reflective report by saying that I am extremely grateful for being given the opportunity to take part in this project because it has given me the exposure of handling a completely different type of project than to all my other projects before this. I have been assigned to handle the phase 4 which is the last phase (documentation). Given this responsibility to make the documentation is quite a challenging task for me since it requires a full formatting from all three phases. This phase, however, gave me the opportunity to experience different aspects of becoming a leader for a certain project, where decisions were made, actions were taken and the effects of those decisions and actions could be directly observed and measured. There was no vagueness or abstract thinking about what might have been the cause of specific outcomes. Outcomes could be observed and directly linked back to the decisions made and actions taken. This overall project approach to learning is the main reason why I personally, enjoyed this project course.

I have given the task equally to all my teammates according to the documentation template one week before due date. I have assigned Nur Azra Zakirah, to do the design description which includes the overall sequence diagram of the system, Sharifah, to do the overall system prototype, and Fatin to do the black box testing and matrixes. The tasks given were all based on what they chose to do. Being a leader, I  have to make sure that every teammates received one task to do. I listed down the tasks before giving it to them, and they chose it themselves. The last option was the test case and so I did the test case and overall documentation. I made sure that every teammates completed their task one day before due date. After they have given me their tasks, I had to make the compilation of the whole report documentation. The time taken to make the whole compilation was approximately one day.

I considered myself to be more of a leader, or decision maker where I would take charge and make my own opinions very clear. However, after meeting my team members I found my self-analysis to be slightly inaccurate. There were clearly two people in my group that were much more authoritive and confident that I was. There was a time when I was aware of the tensions or disagreements in the group and found myself to lighten the situation. Being a leader is a big responsibility, any hardships and disagreements has to be solve professionally to prevent any hard feelings among the group members. It’s good to hear everyone’s point of view about a certain decision or process as it determines how a future situation or person should be addressed most appropriately. It also establishes boundaries of how far I can take a situation or person without compromising their feelings. However, I think if I want to be a successful leader I need to work on my authoritive side and be confident enough to take charge from the beginning. This is something I would like to work on and I think something that will come from further experience in working as a leader in a group.

Teamwork Reflection (Phase 1, 2 & 3)

by Nur Syaffa Husna

I would like to start this reflective report by saying that I am extremely grateful for being given the opportunity to take part in this project. My group leader for phase 1 was Fatin, phase 2 was Azra Zakirah and phase 3 was Sharifah. For phase 1, our leader made it become such an easy phase because the task and work were done on time. Phase 2 was also handled carefully by Azra and there are no miscommunications between the team members during this phase. On phase 3, Sharifah handled it wisely since the report has no any formatting error and the task were given on time. Overall, the leaders for every phases did their very best into making a good report and good phase.

Working in a group, they can be seen as the member who brings light heartedness and informality to a group. Every members are my friends and having them as a team member are such an advantage to our group because we understand each other and know each other well. As a team, our group got on very well and we proved to be fast and effective when making our decisions. We were thrown together into a group with people that many of us had met before. If a group are put together and do not get on, it could hinder the performance of the group from the beginning, when people do not know each other, and each other boundaries. Any disagreements within our group was inevitable and that in most cases it was beneficial to work through a problem properly. Working with the people in our group was such a great experience and I would like to work with them again in the future.

REFLECTIONS? (1ST SEMESTER)

Everything seems so hard at first, and indeed it still is. However, being able to adapt to the new surrounding here-- meeting new people, learning new things and of course, being able to improve self confidence is such a great thing to have. There are laughter and tears throughout this semester, albeit rather in such a short amount time, everything seems to pass by quickly.

LIFE WITHIN THE LOOKING GLASS

Life is not easy as it seems, well if you live on earth you know what i mean. somehow, this world is design to ruin our life, to hurt us, to bring pain into our hearts. Albeit rather, there are kind people around you but they keep on lying, they are not as kind as you thought they were. people tend to be kind just to make other people like them, because the world is filled with people and influence is the strongest power.
