AIN FARHANA BT BASHARUDIN's Reflection
After watching the talk "Opportunities and Strategies in Crisis" by Captain Cyrano, I learnt that the crisis which is faced by him who is a pilot due to crashed on a fateful rainy nights at Taiwan's Chiang Kai-Shek airport on 31st October, 2000 was really an unexpected event that threatened and harm his life where he had to deal the traumatic event on that time. Based on his speech, I can see how the organization and his life have such a big impact and causing problems such as financial problems and Captain Cyrano has been terminated from his work on that crisis. Not only that problems, but also he was targeted by Taiwan media and all the media crew attacked him as well. He left his career for 10 years. After what had happened and after the period of 10 years, he make a comeback to fly again. He managed to deal with his black history and came out with strategies such as he chose the right mix of channels, provide a simple and clear rationale, focus on solutions and he showed goodwill as well.
Besides, i also learnt from him during the crisis and the aftermath of traumatic event, are where we need a lot of supporters such as family members. Well, after all, they were there if we need to share our thoughts and worries, walk through the path with them and always bear in mind that family is our support system. From what Captain Cyrano had said, we need to build up ourselves again, build the strong network around us, keep in touch with family members or organization and remain connected with them if we on our crisis moment. This "microbonding" would really help us to put everything back to normal again. While in term of resilience, it is important for several reasons for personal, career and organization that enables us to strengthen ourselves and avoid from being too much stressful where it can slowly recover and heals ourselves as well. Thus, no matter what crisis or black story in our life we need to build resilience in order to protect us from health and mental issues.
In a nutshell, we need to come out with strategies and grab every chance that we have during the aftermath event to put us back on the right track. It was a great experience that i got from Captain Cyrano and the character that showed from him really make me to respect him even more where he handled the crisis very well and he is a competence man that still get involved with the airlines after the crisis.
