Remarkable Experience in MMHE Yard

I was encouraged by my boss to follow my senior Process Engineer for a line-walk to get experience in the yard. I was told to travel to MHB in Pasir Gudang. The RMP topside platform will be load out offshore by the end of September and this is my only chance to get the experience. I was given P&ID and layout drawing of RMP. I also received the process control philosophy of this project from my senior engineer, Sui Ching and she told me to get familiar with this overall project. The document provides the basis and overview of the project.

On site,  My task was to trace the valves on the line as it was an as-built line walk exercise. Our team consist of five people; Miss Jothi from Shell, Yusuf, Arbaie, Sui Ching and myself. From 21/8/2024-22/8/2024 we entered the topside and managed to cover the main process line, diesel to storage tank, MEG route from OGP and also the Nitrogen cylinder package. All the respective valves and line numbers as well as the equipment itself were checked to be same as in P&ID.

The line-walk activity is about 3 weeks time and we managed to cover all of the systems in the topside of the platform and I summarized the findings before submitting it to my supervisor for his further findings.

Internship Experience

During my short period of internship with MHB, I was not given a large scope and a heavy load of work. When I reported my duty to Sir Azlan who is my head of department for process engineering, my job scope was more focusing on the process basis of a project. My work scope is to assisting the process engineering team to check all the documents provided by the consultant and reviewed it. If there are any errors, it will need to be highlighted and reported it back to the teams. All engineering departments have the same scope, whereas these findings will be shared to the teams through meetings (layout review, P&ID review, safety review, etc.). I used EXCEL spreadsheet to group and summarise the findings and separated it in different sheets referring to different documents and then directly send it to the teams through email. I also get to assist my seniors in several projects as an be seen in the figure below.

Internship Reflection

To conclude my internship experience in MHB, it was indeed unforgettable experience that not many people can obtain. I was so lucky to get under supervision of process engineering department where i can boost up my knowledge of process in different industry which in this case, oil and gas industry. I had zero knowledge of the process flow of this industry and with this short time of period, I could say that I got a lot of new knowledge. I also got the chance to join several meetings where I got to experience the environment of discussing a real-world project. Not only that, I was also encouraged by my boss to visit the RMP in Pasir Gudang. That visit was a remarkable experience, where I got to get up and visit each deck of the topside of the platform, get to know all the equipment and system installed as per P&ID and get to know the situation of construction environment. It was rare to get the opportunity to visit the yard and I was very thankful for the chance given.
