Role in the Programme

Even though I am only a participant in this event, I still have a role to attentive listen to the speaker and actively participate in the discussion.

Mini Report

The justification of me joining the event is to learn how to handle real life problems that I will have to solve in the future through changing the way of thinking of a solution. The speaker, Miss Isabell Zubinsha Melvin, an innovation specialist working at Maxis will be sharing her knowledge on how to do so.

The graduate attribute focused on this event is thinking skills, leadership and team working skills and adaptability. The event mainly polishes thinking skills and guides participants on how to think critically. Leadership, team-working and adaptability can be improved through thinking critically.

The flow of the event mainly consists of Miss Isabell explaining the definition of thinking outside the box, the steps to take in order to so, scenarios which critical thinking is crucial and the benefits and effects of being able to think outside the box. She also actively engages with the audience to gauge their understanding on the topic. She ensures all if not most of the participants are able to keep up the pace that she is aiming for. She held a QNA session at the end of the event to clear any misconceptions of thinking outside the box.

Self-Reflection

The impact of the event on the growth of my graduate attribute is quite big as I gained some insight on how to improve my way of thinking when it comes to facing multiple problems on different scales. Thinking outside the box is very important in coming up with innovative solutions as innovations solves problems in ways that might come unexpectedly. In my opinion, my improved thinking skills will aid me in leading a team and working with other people better. I also find that adapting to different environment would be much easier for me due to event.

I found myself more actively participating in the discussion started in the event as the speaker is skilled at engaging with the audience. I also feel like I am able to attempt to understand other people’s thought process instead of forcing my opinion on them.

The challenges of thinking outside the box is the process of coming up with solution itself as it is challenging and time and effort consuming. To overcome this, I have to enrich myself with different experiences such as learning new soft skills, communicate with more types of people, attempt new ways of solving everyday problem with different solution and many more.

In conclusion, I find that the event “Thinking outside the box” truly will aid me academic-wise, problem solving-wise and social-wise.
