Mini Report

ASTRA is a charity-based event that celebrates the amazing talent of both, UTM Students and various artists. This charity concert, held on 3rd June 2023 at Dewan Sultan Iskandar (DSI), UTM offered a dynamic platform for emerging performers to showcase their exceptional skills and captivate the audience with their remarkable musical abilities. Not only that, ASTRA also featured the incredible talents of local and international artists, creating a fusion of talent and creativity. This event held by Persatuan Mahasiswa Hindu UTM, was mainly focusing on donating to patients with chronic illnesses who come from poor families. The profit made from this event had successfully been donated to the families after the event. This event also provides a platform for university students to showcase their hidden talents on a bigger stage. In this event, I play the role as the sales manager. In my role as the sales manager for ASTRA, I successfully coordinated ticket sales and sponsorships, ensuring a smooth and profitable event. The overwhelming support from the community made this event a resounding success.

Self Reflection

Being the sales manager, I faced countless challenges and dilemmas before the event started as the whole event relied almost one hundred percent on our ticket sales. Earning money to pay off the equipment, artists, and even the charity budget was a tough job to do. This really hit us as a team, as the ticket sales were not promising a month before the event. Four weeks before the event, we went all out as a team. I had to strategize an immediate plan to counter the previous strategy that was not working. I lead my team to sell our tickets, both inside and outside UTM. We approached strangers, shops, and business owners to sell our tickets. We even came up with combo packages for UTM students. The results were better than expected, and our ticket sales kicked off.

Participating as the sales manager for ASTRA provided me with a transformative learning experience, enabling me to develop and enhance a range of valuable skills including communication, thinking, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, global citizenship, and enterprising skills. Effective communication was critical in my work as sales manager. I spoke with a variety of people, including company owners, the general public, and students, to demonstrate the value and significance of ASTRA as a charity event. I efficiently promoted the event and conveyed its noble aim of aiding patients with chronic diseases from low-income families through convincing and straightforward communication. As I confronted many hurdles during the sales process, the event required critical thinking abilities. I had to think fast and imaginatively in order to devise new ideas, especially during last-minute situations when ticket sales needed to be boosted. Making quick judgements, I responded to shifting conditions and established efficient sales strategies to resuscitate ticket sales, assuring the event's success.

As the captain of a 25-person crew, my leadership and collaboration abilities were essential. To maximise efficiency, I offered instruction, inspired the team, and distributed work. I encouraged the crew members to work together towards the common objective of growing ticket sales and producing a memorable event experience for attendees by building a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. Adaptability was essential for handling the unpredictable sales climate. When selling tickets to diverse audiences, I adeptly modified my approach, adjusting my communication style to engage with both company owners and students. This adaptability enabled me to make contacts and effectively market ASTRA to a wide range of target audiences. Finally, my engagement with ASTRA as the sales manager enabled me to develop entrepreneurial abilities. I acquired a sharp entrepreneurial attitude by aggressively pushing ticket sales and communicating with many individuals, seizing opportunities to produce income for a worthwhile cause.
