TASK 1

Hi ! Let me introduce myself. My name is Gregory Kaja Anak Piry. I'm Sarawak.

Feelings, Expectation and Target

I was full of excitement when I was coming here. This is because I know that UTM is one of the top universities in the world. Other than that, I also know that UTM had produced  lot of awesome student to explore the world.

My target in UTM is I waant to get EXCELLENT result. I want to achieve 3.5 and ABOVE and i will make my family proud of me.

Soil Mechanics

Another course that I have been registered is Soil Mechanics.

Soil mechanics is a branch of soil physics and engineering mechanics that describes the behavior of soils. It differs from fluid mechanics and solid mechanics in the sense that soils consist of a heterogeneous mixture of fluids (usually air and water) and particles (usually clay, silt, sand, and gravel) but soil may also contain organic solids and other matter.

Along with rock mechanics, soil mechanics provides the theoretical basis for analysis in geotechnical engineering, a subdiscipline of civil engineering, andengineering geology, a subdiscipline of geology. Soil mechanics is used to analyze the deformations of and flow of fluids within natural and man-made structures that are supported on or made of soil, or structures that are buried in soils.

Example applications are building and bridge foundations, retaining walls, dams, and buried pipeline systems. Principles of soil mechanics are also used in related disciplines such as engineering geology, geophysical engineering, coastal engineering, agricultural engineering, hydrology and soil physics.

Civil Engineering Fundamentals

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering is the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.

It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including architectural engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, control engineering, structural engineering, earthquake engineering, transportation engineering, forensic engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, wastewater engineering, offshore engineering, facade engineering, coastal engineering, construction surveying, and construction engineering.

Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

I have been introduced all of this disciplines from week 1.
