Industrial training will give a positive impact to students on performing tasks related to their programme and enhance their skill and talent. Most importance motive of this industrial program is to learn discipline, skills, teamwork, and technical knowledge in a safe and structured setting. It also help to development of self- disciplined problem-solving skills in the workplace. Industrial training is a program which attempts to give students practical experience and hands-on learning to help them enter the workforce efficiently. This done within the period of semester break for 12 weeks.
The main objective of the training is to make student learn new things regarding the work and relate their study knowledge in the working environment and create new ideas that useful to the workplace. Moreover, to gain knowledge in designing work and gain knowledge in maintenance work. Besides that, internship training also is to develop ability in using software such as Solidworks, Maxsuft and AutoCad., collection and analyzing data. Other than that, the objective of the training is to develop students capability and to be creative in the working flied and to gain work experience related the course studied and to adapt with the working environment.
I carry out my internship training at Samudra Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd for 12 weeks from 25 July 2022 until 14 October 2022. Within this 12 weeks in learned a lot of things. I gained a lot of new knowledge regarding the working environment, about the ship, about the maintenance work, about the designing work and so on. Department that I carry out my internship is SYC which is Samudra Yacht Centre. This department mainly for designing work and to carry out maintenance work.
My main task throughout my internship period is to carry out designing and drawing work. For example, I did drawing for floating jetty and design 3D model in Solidworks. I also involved myself in the work which mainly use software like Autocad and Maxsuft. I also carry out maintenance work which is I involved myself in upslip and downslip process, pressure test and more. For example, upslip and downslip process of the ferry is for scrapping and clear the barnacles. By doing internship at department SYC, I learn and adapt with the working environment which is more to shipyard and communicate with other co-workers and gain more and more knowledge regarding the work which will be useful in the future.
I got the opportunity to participate in tasks including designing a 3D model in Solidworks, drawing a floating jetty and a floating tank, illustrating the upslip and downship process, drawing a lightbuoy, performing data analysis and calculations, and calibrating an anchor chain. Firstly for 2 weeks I involved myself in designing a 3D model in Solidworks to fulfill the work given first did the I-beam part. Secondly did the 3D design for the plate part which used to cover the I-beam. Lastly did the assembly for the I-beam parts.
Throughout my internship period I used more software to design 3D models. This made me familiar with the solidworks software and I gained more knowledge regarding using this software. Secondly, for 3 weeks I involved in drawing a floating jetty and a floating tank. Floating jetty and floating tank drawing done by using Autocad software. Drawing was done after checking all the dimension. Example, for floating tank drawing come out with the drawing of top view, side view and front view of the floating tank. Moreover, I also carry out lightbuoy drawing and anchor chain calibration work as well.
Hence, industrial training programme also help to gain more knowledge by adapt with the working colleague. It is important to engineering students to have a internship to gain and to feel the working environment in order to be familiar with the working environment in future. The knowledge that student learn from the industrial training can be applied in their real working environment. Moreover, during the internship students will be train and will teach a lot of new knowledge that will be very useful in their future undertaking.
