Project 2 /
Reflection

To proceed with our project, we carried out a discussion and researched to find suitable datasets from the websites first. After finalizing our project dataset, we met with Dr Sharin to discuss the chosen dataset. After we received approval from Dr Sharin, we started our project immediately. Since we did not have a leader in our group, I was the one who divided and assigned tasks to each member. I was in charge of categorizing the variables, stating the example test to be done, and doing the goodness-of-fit test. We carried out our data analysis using R studio. For the goodness-of-fit test, I selected the Department variable and tested the data proportions with claimed proportions. Thanks to Dr Sharin, I analyzed data without major problems because Dr had provided some R programming tutorial notes for us. In the R studio, I made a table to get the observed frequency for each department's number of employees first. Then, I passed the claimed proportions into the function to carry out the chi-square test. Next, I compared the chi-square test statistic with the critical value of the test statistic. Lastly, I generated a chi-square distribution graph and shaded the rejection region of the chi-square test statistic. Because my data analysis was quite direct, I just completed the report writing part with a clear explanation and a decision with logical reasoning.

I gained a lot of new knowledge by doing this project and learning probability and statistical data analysis. Throughout this project, I learned how to use statistical tools such as R programming and EXCEL. Before I knew about R programming, I was unfamiliar with data analysis skills. However, after learning R, I realized that data analysis is not that difficult. R is very applicable in descriptive and inferential statistics. In addition, the R language is different from the programming language I currently learn. Therefore, I am glad to learn more new programming languages. Besides, I strengthened my team working skills. We needed to communicate a lot as this was a group project, and different people would have different opinions. I am glad that my group members are all friendly and communicable. In conclusion, I appreciate and am thankful for the help of my lecturer, Dr Sharin and the group members who finished their tasks on time and gave good responses during the discussion. With their help, I managed to conduct Project 2 smoothly and punctually.
