Mini Report

Sekolah Kolaborasi Universiti (Sekolahku) is a volunteer program organized by Volunteer@UTM on 21 until 26 February 2020 at SK Mersing Kanan, Mersing, Johor as one of Spreading Volunteerism Programs, the top bidder program of the club in the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The Program collaborated with the Ministry of Education and aimed to improve any two poor schools in each state of Malaysia. The reason I joined this program is to provide a healthy boost to my self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction also get out of my comfort zone, gain new experience and making a new friends.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Kangkar Pulai and Sekolah Kebangsaan Mersing Kanan in Johor were selected as the venue for our program. Committees of Volunteer@UTM separated into two groups who would be in charge of each school. I have been assigned to Sekolah Kebangsaan Mersing Kanan as a members of activity unit. Informative Murals, Creating a Reading Corner, and Renewing the Classroom Environment were among the activities undertaken to improve the selected schools. The committee needs to hold a drawing competition to pick artists for the Informative Murals in order to execute these initiatives. The committee also had to get some quotes for paint, decorations, books, food, and beverages on their own.

A few weeks before the program, I was instructed to follow the director and vice -director to visit the school as a representative of the activity unit to see the situation of the school and decide where to decorate and which walls suitable for murals. On the program day, we departed from UTM at 7 in the morning and arrive around 10 in the morning. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the teachers and served with a meal also showed us our beds. Then, the activity unit leader have divide us in a few teams to start a murals and class decoration. On the last day of the program, the small event as appreciate to the school was held and they also gave us a souvenir as a token of appreciation.

The Graduate Attributes that I had learned are Communication Skills, Leadership and Teamworking Skills, Global Citizen and Adaptability.Through this program, I had understood that to generate a visionary generation that cares about the country, the aspect of volunteerism among students and the local community must be developed. This programme encourages students to organise their energies in order to increase awareness, achieve recognition, and give back to the community.
