1) Mini Report
On the 22nd of December 2020, a program organized by Kolej Tuanku Canselor (KTC) was held online through KTC Facebook live. This program aims to encourage students especially KTC residents to grab the opportunity to join the exchange student program available in UTM hence the title of this program ‘KTC Go Global’. Plus, this program extracted how far the students understand the term globalization and corrected any misconceptions about it. Other than that, the importance of globalization in education also been emphasized in this talk. The invited speaker, Dr. Nurzal Effiyana Ghazali shared her exciting experience about herself supervising students who joined the student exchange program. She also shared her experience pursuing a dual degree and master’s degree abroad. From her experience, she explained how social and cross-cultural interaction impacted education in a positive way. In this program, the element of leadership skills and proactiveness were highlighted as to be selected as one of the student exchange programs because based on the sharing session, there were lots of activities during the program that utilize these attributes. The speaker also shared about the path that students can take to gain experience studying abroad which is by pursuing a double or dual degree program, student exchange program, and student activities and programs involving partnered abroad universities. She also mentioned that the element of critical thinking skills also vital if students are interested to join the exchange program as there were activities that involved project-based learning which requires the student to brainstorm their ideas and build a prototype of IoT based project.
2) Reflection
The ‘KTC Go Global” leisure talk by Dr. Nurzal Effiyana had given me a ray of hope to experience studying abroad as it has been my wildest dream to get this kind of experience. The sharing session was very beneficial and informative to me as now I can see there are many paths that I can take to join this kind of activity here in UTM. Plus, I have been looking for this kind of program not only to experience studying abroad but also to sharpen my leadership qualities, as well as my critical thinking skills as these programs fit my needs. Besides that, this talk had further made me understand the relationship between globalization and education. I understood that to become a nation that on par with other developed countries, an exchange of knowledge is crucial, and this can be achieved through the exchange student program opportunity that UTM had given to students. All the exciting activities and experiences that had been shared by the speaker made me crave to be one of the lucky students that get the chance to experience those things. This talk had recharged my spirit and energy to improve myself in many aspects.
