This program can give a student an opportunity to gain an experience in volunteering activities including me. Volunteering program is a program that has a very good impact especially for students. I can able to fill my free time in college with worthwhile things. The word of volunteer makes I feel free to make my choices to participate in that activities. Doing volunteer work that I perceived usefulness and fascinating can be a calming and energising break from my study commitment. This program has been done outside from the UTM which is in Zoo Johor. So, from that I take a chance to get a new fresh air in a new place to cope with my stress. This program has provided a variety of exciting activities to participate in.
One of the graduate attributes that are focused on in this program is leadership and teamworking skills. When I’m doing a volunteering activity, I need to work in a team to make sure all the work will be running well. So, indirectly it develops a leadership and teamworking skills in myself. In that program, I be a leader in my team and I need to make sure all my team members to understand with my instructions to do the cleaning work. We also playing a fun game in this program which is explore race. We need to work together to get the chance in getting the first-place prize in that game.
In addition, communication skills. Volunteering normally requires us to communicate what we doing to convince people to help us. So, from that my communication skills will strengthen with practise. I meet a lot of people and I need to communicate with them to maintain my social relationship. My communication skills also improve when I be a leader for my team to give a clear instruction. I learn how to communicate with a new peoples and strangers. I also communicate with international students which is we need to communicate in English. I can improve my communication skills and my self-confidence.
The content of this activities is focus on volunteering works. In this program, we need to do a cleaning work in that zoo area such as tiger and lion cage. They provide others activities too such as explore race and ice breaking session with other participants. For the first slot, we doing an ice breaking session to get to know each other. We do some short introduction and singing together. After that, we doing some cleaning work at the lion and tiger cage. We need to brush and wash the cage and clean their small pool which is their drink place. After doing some cleaning work, we playing explore race. The last slot is closing ceremony which is give a prize to the winner and photograph session.
