The SUKSES '19 program is organized annually by JKM Kolej 9 & 10 and involves all Year 1 students living in Kolej 9 & 10. The program was officiated by College 9 & 10 fellows, namely Dr. Fairuz Diyana. It lasted for 3 days consisted of several sports activities and games such as netball, chess, badminton, ping-pong and so on. The main purpose of such programs is to hone and increase sportsmanship among college residents. Students who win the competitions and have abilities in certain sports will be selected to represent the college in the UTM Games tournament, even to a higher level.
In general, college residents come from a wide variety of races, religions, and backgrounds. Therefore, this sports program can improve the relationship between them and allow students from different races to mix with each other. With this, understanding among students can be fostered to achieve racial unity in Malaysia.
I also did not miss this golden opportunity and chose to participate in the sport of ping-pong. The tournament of ping-pong was held on October 4. I want to hone my playing skills since the last time I played was while in elementary school. I try to adapt in this sport with the help of friends who are already skilled. At first, I was a bit clumsy but the effort was a ladder of success, so, to some extent I was able to play well even though in the end I lost.
The Scorpio Ping-Pong Team, which is a group wearing purple jerseys, consists of 5 members. We always practiced together and took turns using the ping-pong table given the limited number. We learned to be tolerant of each other during practice and we did not have any problems when playing together. This can be said to be good cooperation for the sake of healthy competition.
The sports activities held not only hone physical abilities, but improve thinking abilities especially in terms of game strategy. When faced with defeat, one will surely think of new strategies at an immediate rate to win the competition. Thus, it is proven that sports can sharpen the mind more creatively and intelligently.
